Some problems don't yield to standard solutions

Independent C++ engineer. High-performance parallel code, written close to the metal. Optimisation and scaling problems, mostly.

What the work is.

I write high-performance C++: parallel code, memory and cache behaviour, MPI across nodes, SIMD where it pays. Close to the metal, because that is where the difference between a good and a bad implementation stops being a few percent and becomes an order of magnitude.

That covers a lot of ground. Numerical and simulation code, scheduling, anything where an optimisation has to finish inside a budget, and anything that refuses to parallelise cleanly. The common thread is that the obvious implementation is too slow and buying more hardware has stopped helping.

Combinatorial search is one of those areas, and the one I also do research in. The papers are below.

Papers.

Preprints. Full text and DOI for each on Zenodo.

Ten years writing code, most of it where speed was the whole point.

I am based in Hannover and I work on my own. Client work and research run side by side; some weeks it is one, some weeks the other.
Since 2020
Self-employed. Client work in engineering and e-commerce.
10+ years
Writing code. C++ is what I reach for when it has to be fast: parallel and numerical work, OpenMPI, solver internals.
Earlier
Read mathematics, and left before the degree to work full time. The parts that stuck were the combinatorics and the proof discipline.
Now
High-performance and parallel C++ for clients, and research on combinatorial search alongside it.
Longer background

If something is too slow and more hardware has stopped helping, write to me.

Two sentences about the problem and what it currently costs you are enough to start. No form, no intake call, no discovery workshop.
